　　Since the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Party Central Committee, the undertaking of library of our province has got considerable development especially. The quantity of the halls have been grown from 78 in 1978 to 156, the total amount of collected books is up to 25 million volumes, 2,473,541 volumes of ancient book among them, 146,778 volumes of rare book. The library of Sichuan Province built in 1912 has already joined the international books federation. Advantage of knowledge-intensive, talent's assembling, information network that the libraries at all levels of our province give full play to oneself, every library directs against the characteristic of regional industrial and agricultural production and active demand of the masses of readers at the basic level, having launched the omni-directional one, multi-level, multi-form service, they are so unknown but so vigorous, make remarkable contribution in order to build a socialism with Chinese characteristics.
